Programs & key activities

Our conservation work, program by program

Each program runs year after year rather than as a one-off campaign. Results feed back into the next season's plan, and volunteers are involved at every stage.

01

Water Quality Monitoring & Scientific Sampling

Conducting regular water clarity tests, nutrient level evaluations, and seasonal ecological assessments in collaboration with local environmental experts to track lake health trends.

  • Secchi-depth clarity readings at fixed points through the open-water season
  • Nutrient (phosphorus and nitrogen) and oxygen profile sampling
  • Winter under-ice measurements when conditions allow
  • Yearly summaries shared openly with members and the municipality
02

Aquatic Vegetation & Habitat Restoration

Managing invasive aquatic species, restoring natural shoreline habitats, and promoting sustainable vegetation buffers to preserve local fish and bird nesting areas.

  • Targeted reed and invasive species management with volunteer crews
  • Protection of spawning shallows and waterbird nesting shores
  • Advice on natural buffer strips between fields, yards and the water
03

Community Environmental Education & Workshops

Hosting educational seminars, youth nature days, and guidance workshops for shoreline landowners on eco-friendly land management and wastewater best practices.

  • Seasonal information evenings open to all residents
  • Youth nature days introducing lake ecology through hands-on work
  • Practical guidance on property wastewater systems and runoff
04

Public Advocacy & Local Partnership Building

Working alongside local municipal authorities in Hämeenlinna, regional environmental centers, and civic groups to advocate for policies that protect regional water bodies.

  • Statements and comments on local land-use and permit matters
  • Cooperation with regional environmental centres and other lake associations
  • Bringing local observations into regional water management planning
